War/Dance
in times of war they dance
The Film Opens is Select Theaters This Week
Author: wardancer03.11.2007
War/Dance follows the historic journey of three children from northern Uganda–Dominic, Rose, and Nancy–and their school in the Patongo refugee camp, the first school from the northern war zone to make it to the finals of Uganda’s national music and dance competition. Amidst unimaginable violence and grief, these children sing and dance: they sing with vitality; they sing without fear; they sing in protest and in celebration.

I was notified by a friend on facebook about War/Dance and really like the trailer and the principle of donating all profits to the children, an outstandingly noble thing to do. The movie looks amazing, the story is a truely heart-felt one and I can’t wait to see it. Unfortunately I am in Ireland so I don’t know if there will be a screening here or not.
Can we set up a screening for the movie here in Dublin? The Irish Film Institute(IFI) may be able to help.

Congratulations on making such a great movie. Hopefully I will be able to see it in full soon.

How about Santa Fe? We’ve got 4 or 5 theatrical venues here in Santa Fe. The Cinema Cafe, CCA( Center for Contemporary Arts), The Screen at the College of Santa Fe and DeVargas 6. I’d start w/ The Screen & CCA then to DeVargas 6 and finally to Cinema Cafe.
This film will play really well here in Santa Fe, up to Jackson Hole. People want to do the right thing and the only way that can happen is if they know what the truth is…

I’m a member of the Colorado State University Student Peace Alliance in Fort Collins, CO. We are part of a national student organization that advocates the promotion of a US Department of Peace and Nonviolence and works with various prevention and rehabilitation programs that seek to address the causal issues of domestic and international conflict before they escalate to violence.
I noticed that there aren’t any showings of the film at all in Colorado, and I was wondering how our organization could get involved with hosting one.

I would like to know how I could get a copy of War/Dance. (Is it even possible??) I live in Canada, so I am not sure if this changes things, distribution wise. Thanks for any info you can give me!

Hi! I traveled to Uganda this past summer with my family to volunteer with Cure International Children’s Hospital and various schools. I have also been very involved with the Invisible Children Movement. I would LOVE to screen War/Dance at my school this year, especially because we specialize in music.

The second that I heard about the genocide in Sudan, I could not get it off of my mind. I was lucky enough to experience War/Dance at the Sedona International Film Festival in the Spring of 2007. This story alone is enough to qualify this film as incredible, but the story is backed by spectacular visuals, making it beyond incredible.
I was incredibly disappointed when I discovered that the closest location that War/Dance will be shown is in California. I hope we can screen it at my school. I know that it would have a large turn-out and would have a profound impact on all students that attend.

I heard the filmmakers on NPR and cannot stop thinking about this film. I would like to arrange a screening for 45 7th and 8th graders at a downtown school. The kids are working on a curriculum that emphasizes the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Please let me know what it would take.

I see that the movie will be in DC, at a Landmark Theatre. A Landmark just opened in Baltimore — is there any way to get a screening here?

When will the film come to Oregon. It looks like a very powerful film. Will it be released on DVD? I would love to buy a copy.
